Future Model Projections of Ocean Acidification Markers

Oceanic Basins

Ocean acidification markers displayed in this dataviz project are estimated on the surface, showing spatial variability that can be explored in each of the oceanic basins from north to south by latitudinal bands.

In each one of the oceanic basins select the variable and the scenario from the dropdown menu associated with each basin. Minima in the y-axis refer to the absolute minimum value for each variable in all scenarios, displaying in this way changes in amplitude rather than absolute values.

This map displays latitudinal averaged means at 5° intervals. The historical period estimates the averaged 1980-2000 time period as the mean of an ensemble of CMIP5 models, namely CESM1-BGC, CNRM-ESM1, GFDL-ESM2G, GFDL-ESM2M, HadGEM2-ES, IPSL-CM5A-LR, IPSL-CM5A-MR, MPI-ESM-LR and MPI-ESM-MR.

Future scenarios are calculated as the averaged 2080-2100 time period in the either RCP2.6 or RCP8.5 scenario, as the mean of several CMIP5 models. In this case these models are: CNRM-ESM1, GFDL-ESM2G, GFDL-ESM2M, HadGEM2-ES, IPSL-CM5A-LR, IPSL-CM5A-MR, MPI-ESM-LR and MPI-ESM-MR for RCP 2.6, plus CESM1-BGC for the RCP 8.5 future scenario.
