Future Model Projections of Ocean Acidification Markers

Relative Change in Markers

An overview of the relative change in each one of the ocean acidification markers is displayed here. Changes will inevitably occur in either RCP 2.6 or RCP 8.5 future scenarios. Select the scenario from the menu below.

The ocean is distributed in the Mikaloff-Fletcher regions based on biomes and biogeochemical intrinsic characteristics that help differenciate particular oceanic regions.

This map displays in the Historical scenario the averaged 1980-2000 time period as the mean of an ensemble of CMIP5 models, namely CESM1-BGC, CNRM-ESM1, GFDL-ESM2G, GFDL-ESM2M, HadGEM2-ES, IPSL-CM5A-LR, IPSL-CM5A-MR, MPI-ESM-LR and MPI-ESM-MR.

The map is an Equirectangular projection built with the default D3.js cartographic projections. Beware that the continental contours are based on a superimposed layer using topographic data instead of model output.

Future scenarios RCP 8.5 and RCP 2.6 are calculated as the averaged 2080-2100 time period as the mean of several CMIP5 models. In this case these models are: CNRM-ESM1, GFDL-ESM2G, GFDL-ESM2M, HadGEM2-ES, IPSL-CM5A-LR, IPSL-CM5A-MR, MPI-ESM-LR and MPI-ESM-MR for RCP 2.6, plus CESM1-BGC for the RCP 8.5 future scenario.
