ACIDOSCOPE

Future Model Projections of Ocean Acidification Markers

Carbon Budgets

Abundance of the carbonate species involved in the ocean acidification process are displayed here as the cumulative units of 15 TgC of Dissolved Inorganic Carbon (DIC), Carbonate Ions (CO3) and Bicarbonate (HCO3).

The abundance displayed correspond to the historical period as well to the future scenarios RCP 2.6 and RCP 8.5 on a global scale.

The carbon budgets for the historical period are the averaged 1980-2000 time period of the mean of an ensemble of CMIP5 models, namely CESM1-BGC, CNRM-ESM1, GFDL-ESM2G, GFDL-ESM2M, HadGEM2-ES, IPSL-CM5A-LR, IPSL-CM5A-MR, MPI-ESM-LR and MPI-ESM-MR.

Future scenarios are calculated as the averaged 2080-2100 time period in the either RCP2.6 or RCP8.5 scenario, as the mean of several CMIP5 models. In this case these models are: CNRM-ESM1, GFDL-ESM2G, GFDL-ESM2M, HadGEM2-ES, IPSL-CM5A-LR, IPSL-CM5A-MR, MPI-ESM-LR and MPI-ESM-MR for RCP 2.6, plus CESM1-BGC for the RCP 8.5 future scenario.
